Sri Aurobindo Ghosh's transformation from a revolutionary to a tapasvi

Sri Aurobindo Ghosh's transformation from a revolutionary to a tapasvi took place when he faced a trial for sedition. Here is an excerpt from his writings : When I was arrested I was shaken in faith as I could not look into His heart or understand His intentions.

I believed that since I was working for my country, I should have His protection. On the third day a voice came to me within and said, " Wait and see ". Then I grew calm. I looked at the jail walls and the walls did not appear walls. It was Narayan Himself surrounding me. When I looked at the prisoners, I saw Vasudeva in them. When the case opened in court, I looked and it was not the magistrate whom I saw, It was Narayana who was sitting in the bench. " Now do you fear" He said. "I am in all men.

My protection is with you. Leave this case in my hands ". From that time onwards I did not speak a world to my counsel about the case. " The voice said remember, whenever sufferings or difficulties come It is I who am doing this. Before long you will have to go out of this jail as I do not want that you should be suffering because of your country ". This transformed Sri Aurobindo completely......

Later on he went on to establish the famous ashram at Pondicherry.
